Who orders bath towels and bath sheets?

Any site that hands out a towel after a shower. The cloth is the same in each case. The size and the weight are not. A gym towel is cut smaller than a hotel bath towel, so each one takes its own line on the order.

What is the difference between a bath towel and a bath sheet?

Size. Nothing else has to change. We cut the bath sheet larger. Hotel bath sheets can carry the same weight, twist, header, hem and shade as the towel beside them.

A bath sheet holds more cloth. At the same weight it puts more cotton into every piece than the bath towel beside it. So decide the quantity of each size apart from the spec.

Bulk bath sheets take their own line on the order. That line carries its own size and quantity.

What size is a bath towel?

The size you put on the order. We cut every towel to your measurements. New stock then goes on the same shelf as the towels you already run.

The names do not fix a size. Bath towel and bath sheet each cover a range of sizes. So we work from your measurements, not from the name.

Send the length and the width for each line. If the towels replace something you already buy, post us one piece. That answers the question faster than a size name.

Which weight should a bath towel be?

Between 400 and 700 GSM. Weight matters more here than on any other towel in the room. Both pieces are larger than a hand towel or a face cloth. So each step up the range adds more cotton to every piece you buy.

A lower figure gives a lighter towel with a shorter pile. A higher figure puts more cotton into the same towel. Your own laundry and your own stock list settle which way to go. We weave the figure you name. 500 GSM towels and 600 GSM towels sit inside that range. 700 GSM towels sit at the top of it.

The two sizes need not share a weight. A bath sheet can run at its own figure. We price each line on what is written against it.

Zero twist, low twist or standard twist?

Twist is how tightly the yarn is spun before it is woven. We weave all three on ringspun yarn. Twist changes how the pile feels, not the size of the towel.

Zero twist yarn is left almost untwisted. The loop opens out, so the towel feels soft and full. Standard twist yarn is spun tighter. The loop is firmer, and the pile sits closer to the base cloth. Low twist sits between the two.

Name the twist on each line of your order. We keep it on your spec file, so a repeat order is woven the same way.

What gets decided at the ends of the towel?

Two things: the band across each end, and the way the edges are turned and stitched.

The header is plain, a dobby border or a satin band. We weave dobby border towels on the loom, so the border is part of the cloth. A satin band looks flat and smooth next to the terry pile. Plain leaves the terry running all the way to the hem.

The hem is plain or mitred. We double stitch both. A mitred hem folds the corner at an angle. The two turnings then meet instead of stacking. Anything the table leaves out is set on your order.

White towels, or a shade matched to your Pantone?

White, or one solid colour. We do not print towels, so send a Pantone number instead of artwork.

Bulk white bath towels keep the stock interchangeable. Every towel in the cupboard starts the same colour. Hotel white towels added two years later join the same pile.

A solid colour is the other route. The number you send settles the shade. We keep that number on your spec file. The next order is then woven against the record, not judged by eye.

Which lines go with the towels?

The rest of the bathroom. Hand towels, face cloths, bath mats, bathrobes and pool towels in the bath linen range take the same weights and the same finishing. One shade and one header can run through the whole room.

Rooms that take towels take bedding as well. Flat sheets, fitted sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers and the wider bed linen range go on the same quotation as the towels.
